Beaches
A long strip of sandy beach extends for kilometres from Den Helder in the north to Petten in the south. The coast enjoys major appeal throughout the year: a fun day at the seashore in the summer, flying kites in the fall, a brisk walk in the winter and absorbing the first rays of sunshine at a beach pavilion in the spring.
Dogs/Horses on the beach:
From 1st May till 1st October only leashed dogs are allowed on the beach between 9.00 h. a.m. and 19.00 h. p.m.
In the same period, horses are not allowed on the beach between 9.00 h. a.m. and 19.00 h. p.m.
The blue flag is an initiative of the Stichting voor Milieueducatie in Europa (FEE) and is coordinated in Flanders by the Bond Beter Leefmilieu (BBL). Annually, coastal beaches, basins and marinas can be awarded a blue flag. This quality label is valid for only one year, which provides an incentive for responsible managers to maintain the high quality of their beaches, basins or marinas. Tourists choosing a beach, basin or marina with a blue flag are assured excellent quality and good management. See also www.blueflag.org
The beaches from Den Helder to Petten are safe and clean. The Blue Flag has been flying over the beaches for years and years.
